The drive is great going either East or West, I outlined a map of a course I wanted to drive while on Mulholland Dr/Coldwater Canyon Drive. Probably one of the best drives I found in LA so far. But to answer your question there is TONS of traffic cause it's a total tourist trap with tour buses, BUT if you go early in the mornings like I did around 7-8am, sometimes a little earlier the road is pretty empty.

This is the course I outlined for myself while driving. The red dot is where I started haha

I think this route was a 12 mile course give or take a mile
